What can an ordinary college
student living in the Global South like me do to narrow this gap?!
Truly,
it is really hard to do something that will make an impact on narrowing this
widening gap. But certainly, it is possible. Each and everyone can do something
even in our own simple ways.
As
a student, I always try to share the knowledge I am acquiring at school. As much
as possible, I am trying to explain my point or share what I learned regarding
a specific issue, at home or to my friends. How can this make a difference? I believe
that by this, somehow I am changing how the majority of the Filipinos think not
only about the international issues but the country’s issues as well. Sometimes,
I think that these ideas will spread and change the thinking and the attitude
of the Filipinos. Why is this important? It
is because change is what most of the countries in the Global South needs to
narrow the gap between the Global North. The Global South needs change in
almost every aspect including how the leaders and citizens of each country
think. Through this, I believe that this widening gap will be narrowed eventually.
